Firebird - Dashbots

'Robot Converts to Car with Pull Back Action'

The metal and plastic Dashbots Firebird is a transforming robot toy that unlike most of the other Dashbots was only sold in black. The cost reduced plastic versions were sold in other colour schemes; see other pages on this site.

The Firebird is the same base sculpt as the Dashbots Police Car with a different paint application and no emergency lights bar added to the roof. While the Firebird stickers are unique, it shares the rear window sticker with the Police Car.

It's a very solid toy with a decent amount of diecast metal making up the top half of the car. The firebird was released a number of times and eventually in a cost reduced, all plastic version; again, see separate page in this section.

Like all Dashbots, the Firebird features a powerful pull back, wind up motor that competently sends it dashing across the floor.

See Dashbots main index for further details.

Firebird (metal & plastic versions) - 10.5 cm

Dashbots US Merry Yard & Upright (black) 1985

See separate page on this site for the Plastic versions.

Faction The Firebird was listed on the first release, tray packaging as allied with the 'Friendly Robots'.

Misleading Packaging The blister card text shows '3 IN 1' for what is clearly a two mode robot; unless they count the motor feature as one of the three. There were two blister card releases and while the second card still boasts 'Stick-On Decals', they were only supplied with the first carded version.

Stamped '(c) 1985 Upright Manufacturers Inc Pat. Pending Made in Taiwan'. Up-Right is misprinted and should have a hyphen.

Trivia The Dashbots Firebird's face and belt are loosely based on the Gobots Hans-Cuff, or more specifically the Machine Robo Series, Patrol Car Robo sculpt. The Machine Robo link is more likely as the Dashbots Dune Buggy and Ferrari were adapted from existing Japanese model kids and it's highly likely the Firebird was as well; yet to be confirmed.
