Zybots IV
Poseidon was created by REMCO for the Zybots toy line and released under the title, 'Zybots IV'.
Zybots IV added three larger models to the line similar in size to Tonka's Super Gobots.
Poseidon arguably has the most successful alt mode in the form of a surprisingly solid submarine. While the robot mode will likely appeal to vintage sci-fi fans, as with most of the larger Zybots it's debatable whether it makes a good toy.
The prototype for Poseidon (below) was designed with feet independent from the legs that would have added polish to the model.
The cardback instructions show the conning tower to be added in alt mode however image (4) shows the tower on the robot's back. The Canadian three pack instructions are different showing the tower removed. As there's nowhere to put the piece in robot mode it's down to user discretion.
A REMCO retailer catalogue showed Transport 16 (renamed Space Cadet), Poseidon (black), Sky Attacker (army camo) and Zybots II REV-2 reissued as New Super Changeable Zybots on blue cardbacks; see Zybots Release order and Stamping section for more details.
