Stone Wing - Rock Lords

Rock Commander - Ganseki Chōjin

Stone Wing is one of two Gobots Rock Lords vehicles and the only vehicle sold as part of the Japanese Ganseki Chōjin line.

It was released between Series 1 and 2 figure waves and marketed for the Evil faction to use; specifically Magmar. This is where it gets a little weird.

When Stone Wing was designed by Bandai, Boulder/Battlerock was shown in marketing images (including the box) sitting in the pilot seat... but Boulder can't sit. His legs don't swing forward at the hips. To get around this in some images you can see his legs have been awkwardly folded behind him pushing his chest to the front of the cockpit. As none of the Series 1 Heroic/Good Rock Lords figures can sit, this may have lead Tonka to switch the vehicle's faction as all currently released Evil figures had compatible articulation. It has a MRR model designation so Bandai did intend for it to be a Good faction toy.

Regardless of the above, Stone Wing is an interesting design, includes a decent amount of diecast metal for the wheel struts and inner structure and has an unexpectedly clever mode change process. It's very solid in both modes and the battering ram packs a surprising amount of punch!

Gobots Packaging 'Magmar must use Stone Wings air and land defenses to conquer the good Rock Lords and Boulder, if Stonehead is to be his. The battle continues with the best weaponry the evil Rock Lords can devise.'

Japanese Packaging Practical Translation 'A mysterious space rock monopole stone. Since this rock has antigravity properties it is always eaten by Rockgilan (Terra Rock) as an energy source for flight. Battlerock (Boulder) drew up the blueprint of a fighter plane incorporating this monopole stone. He finally completed the rock machine together with Mecharock (Nuggit) who is good at making machines, and named it Rock Commander'.
