Scales was released by Tonka as part of the Gobots toy line and unlike most of the Gobots was not originally part of the Japanese Machine Robo Series created by Bandai.
It's a Tonka toy in every respect. It's a vehicle, has a solid construction with limited paint and sticker detail and a heap of play value.
Does it fit in with the Japanese, fine sculpted toys that make up most of the Gobots line? Not really, however that in no way means it's not a lot of fun.
Scales is fabricated very well and the ability to rev up the motor and only apply power to the wheels when a button is pressed is adds a lots. Tonka taking the cheap option by not applying stickers or paint to make the eyes more obvious is the only real negative.
