Game Console Gamepad Controller - Dismantled for reference and curiosity
Supplied with the 'Panasonic Real 3DO Interactive Multiplayer FZ-1' console the Panasonic FZ-JP1 controller has a number of interesting features.
Overall it's a pretty standard directional pad with three action buttons, two shoulder buttons and a pair of start and select-like buttons.
In addition to this the controller has a head phone jack with a volume control so you can fight the evil hordes without cheesing off everyone else in the room.
Another critical feature relates to the 3DO only having one controller port. Player one's gamepad is connected to the console and each additional gamepad connects to the back of the previous one in a daisy chain affair of up to eight players.
Not surprisingly the gamepad doubles as a controller for the 3DO's multimedia functions and that's hinted at by the start and select buttons being labeled with symbols indicating stop and play/pause.
The Panasonic and Goldstar controllers for their respective 3DO console are essentially identical in function and almost in form.
