Game Console Gamepad Controller - Dismantled for reference and curiosity
Supplied with the 'Goldstar 3DO Interactive Multiplayer' console the Goldstar GPA111M controller has a number of interesting features.
Overall it's a pretty standard directional pad with three action buttons, two shoulder buttons and a pair of start and select-like buttons.
One of the neat features is that the controller has a head phone jack and volume control so you can fight the evil hordes without cheesing off everyone else in the room; certainly not common at the time.
Another critical feature relates to the 3DO only having one controller port. Player one's gamepad is connected to the console and each additional gamepad connects to the back of the previous one in a daisy chain affair of up to eight players.
Not surprisingly the gamepad doubles as a controller for the 3DO's multimedia functions which is hinted at by the start and select buttons being labeled with symbols indicating stop and play/pause.
The Goldstar and Panasonic controllers for their respective 3DO console are essentially identical in function and almost in form.
