ATARI 1010 - Program Recorder

A solid unit the 1010 was the replacement for the Atari 410.

Both the 410 and 1010 ran through the Atari SIO (Serial I/O) bus which is disturbingly similar to modern day USB ports. The other natty feature was that it was a dual track system meaning that it could read data on one track and, if the designer wanted, play audio from the other.

This meant that while you were waiting for your game to load you could listen to some 'loading music' or, as was popular in Atari's renowned education range, a voiceover prepping you for the next segment once it had loaded.
